Last Wednesday morning, beneath the soft clink of teacups and the rustle of newspapers, a select crowd gathered in the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park for a breakfast that was anything but routine. The occasion?
The unveiling of a very British meeting of minds: our friends at Sunspel have joined forces with Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park to create a limited-edition version of their iconic Classic T-shirt - cut in the hotel’s serene Celadon green.

At first glance, it’s a simple garment. But, as anyone familiar with Sunspel knows, simplicity is where the magic lies. The T-shirt in question is spun from Supima cotton - sourced from a single farm in California and transformed, via a meticulous 12-step process, into soft, featherweight cloth in the brand’s Long Eaton factory.
There, skilled hands (some of whom have been on the job for over two decades) craft each piece with a kind of pride that’s increasingly rare.

This isn’t a retail moment. Guests staying in the Mandarin Oriental’s Signature and Speciality Suites throughout July will find one of these Celadon beauties waiting for them, a subtle nod to British design at its most refined.
What’s more, they’ll be offered a visit to Sunspel’s bespoke T-shirt service - an invitation to commission their own custom piece, tailored to their liking and made to measure with the same obsessive care.
The idea, as Sunspel's CEO, Raul Verdicchi described over smoked salmon and espressos, is to champion craftsmanship that’s both elegant and enduring. In short, “a celebration of experience and meaningful luxury”.

The T-shirt enjoyed a brief appearance in the window of Sunspel’s Jermyn Street flagship at the start of the month, however if you missed it, don’t worry: this isn’t about spectacle. As with all good things, the value lies in the wearing. Thoughtful, tactile, and designed to last - this is British luxury in its most wearable form.
